The El Breal lagoon occupies part of an old meander of the Bermejo River in the El Impenetrable National Park. In the rainy season it is fed by the overflow of the river. In its surroundings the presence of numerous mammal species stands out; many of them are threatened, which are very rare or extinct in other Chaco areas, such as the yaguareté, the maned wolf, the chimelero peccary, the great anteater and the armadillo carreta.
